Traditionally, the materials are stored in block stacking method. Here the goods are stored on top of each other. However, unless all the goods are of same dimensions , & contains large quantities of same articles, this method leads to material damage & causes delay in material handling.
Selective Pallet racking is the most common & simplest form of pallet racking. Each individual pallet is individually accessible. The system consists of vertical frames & horizontal adjustable beams.
This form of racking entails low capital cost & flexible. Also, it simultaneously protects the goods from damage. The aisle size depends on the choice of material handling trucks.
Floor Space Utilization | Approx. 40% |
Practical use of available positions | Maximum - 100% |
Speed of throughput | More than one truck can access the goods |
Stock rotation | Easy |
Stock Variability | Feasible |
Safety | Good |
Handling Equipment | Forklift, reach trucks |
This form of racking uses space more efficiently. The aisles are narrower and the rack heights are higher compared to selective pallet racking. However , reach trucks or stacker cranes are required for material movement.
